So I haven't talked about our current family situation with a lot of people but I feel as though I need to now. I've decided to do it via blog as it seems to be easier for me to express myself and frankly this way I don't have to keep repeating myself.
So I think it all began in December 2011. Rudy came down with what we thought was the flu...he had chills, aches, fever and fatigue. He went to the doctor on multiple occasions and tried different antibiotics and slowly started to feel better. the key is that he started to feel better but never 100%. In February, he noticed that he had a lump on his neck under his ear. A week later he found another one...luckily he decided to go to the doctor. This in itself is a miracle as those that know Rudy, know how much he HATES to go to the doctor.
The doctor decided to take some blood work and sent Rudy for a CT Scan. At this point they were telling us its probably just an infection and not to worry....so we didn't; then the results came back.
The blood results showed that his white blood cell count was very low; his CT Scan showed abnormally large lymph nodes in his neck, chest and pelvic area. At this point his doctor recommended that he see an oncologist.
Needless to say this threw both of us for a loop. How could Rudy, the healthy one out of us, need to go to an oncologist? What did this mean for Rudy, for our family?
