Well we had our first real Houston Hurricane experience. Eduard decided to make a surprise appearance in the Gulf and quickly headed in our direction. Most people, including us, found out about Eduard on Sunday. By Monday morning they were forecasting it to impact Houston by around 7AM on Tuesday morning (possible flooding and high winds). Needless to say my work was extremely busy - I am the HR Advisor for all the Houston area convenience stores, so there was some prep work to do (they promised me I wouldn't have to rescue anyone via boat ;) )
ExxonMobil has an amazing notification system, they were able to provide, I thought, more precise information that the news stations were. On Monday I left work early in order to do "hurricane prep" - fill up gas tank, buy nonperishable foods, water, etc. It was amazing the number of people waiting at the gas pumps to fill up - its something I have never experienced before.
We were lucky Eduard weakened much faster than they thought it would and turned more to the north so we had some wind and rain. It rained for the majority of the day but other than that we were left unscathed. So ends another "adventure" for the Mendoza family.
Stay tuned......
